FAQs
How can I ensure I am safe when paddle boarding?
To ensure you (and others) remain safe when on the water we strongly recommend referring to this SUP Safe link before launching. Our full kit does not include personal floatation equipment, which should also be worn when on the water.
Is stand up paddle boarding (SUP) something I can do?
One of the most common questions. Most people can - and they love it! It is relatively easy to learn...most pick up the basics the first day of learning. Still a bit of a secret...all ages and skills levels can participate.
How long does paddle boarding take to learn?
It’s not
uncommon for first-time paddlers to stand up and paddle within 20 minutes. The
ease of learning this sport attracts a wide range of ages from the very young to
the very mature and a wide range of skills from novice to seasoned athlete.
Why is a
person’s weight a factor?
You want a
board that keeps you on top of the water for optimum paddling efficiency. If
two people try the same board, and one weighs 95kgs and the other 65kgs, the
heavier person will cause the board to sit lower in the water. This causes
greater resistance, and therefore requires more effort while paddling.
Why are
inflatable SUPs popular?
Inflatable
SUPs (ISUPs) are typically more durable, more stable and take up less storage
space than rigid SUPs. This makes transporting the boards much easier than
rigid boards that require a roof rack/van. When fully inflated they are
incredibly rigid.
Do your SUPs
include a paddle and a pump?
Yes, all of our boards include a paddle, hand pump, ankle
leash with bungee cord, backpack and maintenance kit.
How long does it take to pump up a SUP?
With the hand pump supplied this should take between 6 and 8 minutes. This varies dependent on the size of the SUP - the 9' 6" SUP will be quicker to reach its optimum psi than the larger SUPs.
How do I know when my SUP is fully inflated?
The recommended psi for our SUPs is between 10 and 15psi. The average inflatable paddle board rider will inflate their board to approx 12psi. The higher the psi the harder and more rigid the board will be in the water. Hot weather can also increase the psi. All our SUPs are supplied with hand pumps with a psi gauge.
Where can
I use my paddle board?
Paddle boarding can take place anywhere there is
enough water to board on. Our SUPs are suitable for use on the sea, lakes,
rivers and canals.
What
maintenance does my SUP require?
Cleaning your SUP after use is most important particularly
when used in saltwater. See our Rinsekit PODs which can be used to wash your SUP
with freshwater. Make sure that any moisture on the SUP after cleaning is
towelled off prior to packing. We would recommend final packing at home if you have
driven. This allows the SUP more time to be completely dry before packing.
Do you need wax for paddle boards?
Unlike surfboards, paddleboards don't need need waxing or yearly maintenance to maintain performance. However, it's a good practice to inspect your board regularly for scratches or dings that may need repair.
